All fall and winter I was able to avoid any kind of flu that a lot of people were experiencing. For some who had the flu would say, “stay away from me” which sounded like a good idea to me! It’s not good to have someone around you if they are contagious with some kind of flu g bug.
But being contagious isn’t always bad. As a matter fact as Jesus followers we should all be contagious. There should be an obvious way about us; attitude; conversation and joy that make us contagious.
I don’t suppose the first church we find in the book of Acts had a name. But when you read about that group of Jesus followers you quickly see it is an amazing, contagious church. If you read between the lines you sense such excitement for what Christ was doing in the lives of people. One thing we know about the first church is how contagious they were. Incredible! Their excitement and joy and identification with Jesus was contagious.
In 2007 each local body of believers can be just as contagious as the first church in Acts. How can it happen? Clean hearts; humble spirits; forgiving hearts; great faith; willing to serve; joyous, positive attitudes – all of these will create a contagious atmosphere where people will be drawn in but also want to stay in.
Let’s make sure we keep a healthy perceptive on what a local body of Jesus is to look like and act like. Let’s fully avail ourselves to allow the Lord to overwhelm us with His presence so that the Holy Spirit’s passion invades us and empowers us. Are we contagious at EBC?
