I started drinking coffee when I was in high school when I worked at a hotel in the banquet department. During the break time between serving food and waiting for the dismissal of the group we would sit around and drink coffee. For some 25 years I drank simple, adequate, affordable coffee. You know – Cains, Folgers, etc.

Couple years ago I drank ‘real’ coffee for the first time. I loved it! Now I’m a Starbucks coffee snob. I really, really enjoy going to a Starbucks coffee shop to enjoy, not only the coffee, but also the atmosphere they’ve created.

With a strategic, focused plan Starbucks determined that the atmosphere in their stores and the attitude from their employees is as important as the coffee they serve. Their goal is when someone enters their store – you feel that it is a welcoming place and it is an oasis from the pressures of the outside world.

Starbucks has capitalized on atmosphere and attitude that has proven to be extremely successful in reaching people. It should be our desire individually and especially as a church to create a welcoming atmosphere and have Christ like attitudes that cause guests to feel that EBC is a place they can come and be encouraged and accepted. The only way that can happen is by a healthy perspective on the church and by living the Spirit filled life.

Let’s make sure the atmosphere and attitude at EBC far exceed any thing a coffee shop attempts to do. Let’s keep a healthy perspective on the church and what our role is individually so that people might experience Jesus!

I know we can make a difference!
