As the tragic events of this week began to unfold everyone, including this pastor, began to ask ‘why’ did something like the massacre at Virginia Tech happen? Those who do not personally know Jesus and those who walk with Him daily ask the same question. For some reason we just want to make some kind of sense out of such a senseless tragedy.

When tragedies like this happen, the reality of sin; hopelessness; the brevity of life and inevitability of entering into eternity flood my mind. I hurt for the young man whose heart was void of God’s love and sensed hopeless in his life. I hurt for families whose children’s life was shortened and slipped into eternity.

Truth is no one on earth can answer the question, ‘why’? We do know during times like these God seems to pour out His love and grace in amazing ways. And during this time God will work through people extending His love in many ways. God’s light becomes a source of comfort and direction as it pierces through the darkness of this moment.

God has a purpose for every circumstance in life. And in ways that I cannot explain God makes incredible good come out of horrific bad. I’m thankful that my trust is not in the limitations I have in my temporary earthly vision. My trust is in my Father who sees our lives in light of eternity and gives us just what we need in the moment we need it. God can be trusted even when we don’t have the answer for ‘why’?

I know He makes the difference!
